I thought the disc was skipping on track one, ‘Bring It On’. Then I realized the sound was an intended effect. Imagine this: I soon found the sound to be rather attractive! This song is something unexpected and fresh, and it makes you realize that there's beauty in sounds you'd never expect there to be.
‘Huge Samurai Radish’ - This track has the potential to create a huge buzz! Think of the impact Herbie Hancock’s ‘Rockit’ and Art of Noise’s ‘Close To The Edit’ had in their days. 'Huge Samurai Radish' shouldn't really be compared to them - but it features the same exciting brilliance...
Also, Raoul Sinier's website states that he: "Juggles music, illustration and animation." The video for this song is beyond amazing! In all black and white, a radish tries to make an escape from a radish factory, and really has you rooting for the cute little sucker. Very entertaining, and I felt like I escaped too (in my case, from planet Earth).
‘Untitled6’ – Has a sinister undertone and a frenzied spirit entangled in its beat.
‘Solid Flesh (Part 2)’ – A Ska-ish and jazzy flavor launches this song and develops into a commanding arrangement of pulsing thumps. The more you listen to it, the more layers you pick up on.
‘Bleach Bath’ – This song struck me as a somewhat tragic and pained-themed track. Lots of emotion is conveyed throughout and I am left wondering how Raoul manages to make these instruments/machines sound so warm and alive!
‘Peephole Crisis’ – The sounds of what may actually be an old typewriter's keys being punched is showcased here and proves to be a just as valuable an instrument as any.
‘Huge Samurai Radish (Lynx And Ram Remix)’ – The rock 'n roll style and appearance of vocals (female) on this track are welcoming. "She" gradually becomes intense, you could say angry or desperate, and somehow manages to still sound pretty despite. A nice addition.
‘Huge Samurai Radish (Datach'i Remix)’ This would make a great video game track. I mean that in a very complimentary way! It’s very high energy and, I don’t know, it makes me want to have a joystick in my hand and kick some #%@.
'Huge Samurai Radish (Raoul Sinier Remix Featuring Vast Aire)' - This remix features hip-hop artist, Vast Aire (Cannibal Ox, Atoms Family). This is one hot remix; these 2 gentlemen really complement one another.
The album is available now. Label: Ad Noiseam.
